Older work

Flames Central

This was the very first major project I headed up after being promoted to Senior Developer when I worked at Skinnyfish Media. The Flames Central sports bar/nightclub had just been announced, hype was starting to build, multi-million dollar construction at an old downtown theatre had commenced, and I was leading a team of graphic designers, motion designers, programmers, 3D artists, and writers to create something that would live up to the growing expectations.

While building the bulk of the site itself, we also delivered email campaigns, developed video-based “teaser” microsites, and provided other technical-related services (to the point where I spent a day in their office setting up email accounts for staff!). The site launched just mere days after the facility opened in order for us to have time to process and include photos from the invitation-only grand opening party.

  • Role: Technical lead
  • Technologies used: XHTML, CSS, Javascript (Mootools), PHP, MySQL, Photoshop CS3, Flash CS3, 3rd party open-source calendering applications and email campaign software.
  • Duties:
    • Led a team of 8 people and supervised all aspects of the site from conception to delivery
    • Primary client point-of-contact (important lesson learned: instruct receptionists to NOT give out your home phone number to a client who doesn’t sleep at night).
    • Pitch development (budget estimates, technology plans, vendor choices, goal/milestone and timeline setting)
    • IA/Site Mapping
    • XHTML/CSS development of design comps
    • Flash development
    • Training of Flames Central staff in using the CMS, Upcoming Events, and Email Campaign tools.
